Where we come from Steinbeis: Network – Foundation – University

The name Steinbeis has stood for the transfer of knowledge for over 150 years. Ferdinand von Steinbeis was a co-founder of dual education in the 19th century – a promoter of innovation and a pioneer of systematic education and training. The globally active Steinbeis network, which currently includes around 1,000 Steinbeis companies, co-operation and project partners in over 60 countries and the renowned Steinbeis University, was named after him.

The umbrella organisation of the Steinbeis Network is the Steinbeis Foundation for Economic Development (StW), which was founded in 1971 and is based in Stuttgart. The purpose of the StW is to make scientific knowledge available to the entire economy.

SCMT GmbH is the leading Steinbeis GmbH & Co. KG company for technology transfer (StC) and is firmly anchored in StW. When it was founded in 1998, Managing Directors Dr Walter Beck and Rainer Gehrung, together with the former President of Steinbeis University, Prof. Dr Dr h.c. mult. Johann Löhn, were instrumental in establishing the Project Competence Study Programme® and thus Steinbeis University.

That is why we live by the principles of Ferdinand von Steinbeis every day. Theory and practice, fresh ideas and traditional values. This is the engine of constant further development.

The School of Management and Technology (SMT), a business school of Steinbeis University, cooperates closely with SCME GmbH as part of the Project Competence Study Programme® and teaches the theoretical content required to successfully complete the project. The career-integrated study programmes offer various forms of training and further education.
